Willoughby readers are learning how to pick out a "just-right" book. Just-right books are level - a smooth ride, not too easy, not too hard.
To help find a level, just-right book, students practiced the
5 FINGER RULE:
- Turn to 1 page of a book
- Hold up 1 finger for every challenging word on that page
- 1-2 challenging words is OK! (make the "Ok" sign with thumb and forefinger) You have a level, just-right book in your hands.
- 3, 4, or 5 challenging words means STOP! (hold up all 5 fingers). This book is uphill.
