For homework this week, please have your child continue to read each night for at least 15 minutes to make reading a daily habit (and continue over the summer!).
Students can play a math game from the Math-a-thon, old homework packs, or Willoughblog. Lower school parents are organizing a Field Day in Ft. Greene Park for Friday, June 20th. More details to come from parents, including an activity sign up sheet!
Mark you calendars! Our field trip to Habana Outpost has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 19th! Willoughby is taking a field trip to a Habana Outpost, a local restaurant, to learn all about sustainable design and recycling! We will be leaving at 10:15 and returning around 12:30 after our tour and lunch. If you would like to learn about urban environmentalism with us, sign up to chaperone! We need 6 chaperones for this trip! Permission slips coming home today along with menu to pre-order lunch for the trip!
Just before dismissal on Friday, Mrs. Adams brought James to school to meet the class! He was so excited to meet his new friends. Some Willoughby friends made "learning books" for James, which he enjoyed during his long (7 hour) car ride to Boston!
Thank you for the photo, Pearl and Ellie! Please join us for our final Willoughby share at 9:15 on the last day of school!
Willoughby scientists have begun their new unit of study:
Earthworms! They made their first observations of this incredible creature yesterday, and developed questions to guide our earthworm investigation. Many questions focused on earthworm body parts, so we did some online research and drew diagrams and labels in our notebooks to better understand this unique animal. Check out Squirmin' Herman, who taught us about its body parts today! http://urbanext.illinois.edu/worms In Reader's Workshop, students are learning how non-fiction text features can help them as a reader. So far, we have learned about tables of contents, bold words and glossaries, an index, headings, diagrams, labels and close-up pictures. Students will be incorporating these features into their own book about earthworms in Writer's Workshop.
