Field Trip to
Brooklyn Bridge Park
Wednesday, October 31
9:00-12:30
Willoughby will be visiting Brooklyn Bridge Park on Wednesday, October 31 from 9:00-12:30. Brooklyn Bridge Park was a grassroots initiative that brought together people in the community to transform an abondoned waterfront into the park you see today.
At the end of October students will begin a geometry unit studying plane and solid shapes, and the park at Pier 6 is a wonderful place to find these shapes in a real world setting.
In addition to sketching the park and the shapes they see, they will tour the offices of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. While there, they will get to see the actual blue prints and models that became the park. This will lead into their next Social Studies project that will focus on designing a community park by creating blueprints and building models using geometric shapes.
CHAPERONES WELCOME! PERMISSION SLIPS WILL BE COMING HOME IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS, PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING US!
