Willoughby is taking a field trip to a Habana Outpost, a local restaurant, on June 9th to learn all about sustainable design and recycling! We will be leaving at 10:15 and returning around 12:30 after our tour and lunch. If you would like to learn about urban environmentalism with us, sign up to chaperone! Permission slips coming home next week!
Willoughby has been reading books about weather in their reading clubs, and these books have inspired them to write poems about weather! Check out some of the newly published poems below.
Please join us before break for a curriculum share!
When: Friday, April 11th @ 9:00 am
Our young scientist chefs will be "cooking" up ice cream (the most popular lab of the unit!) and teaching you about the states of matter. They may even have you join in the fun!
They will share their published "How To" piece on making ice cream, where they have been sharpening their 6 Traits of Writing skills by adding an introduction (Organization), transition words (Word Choice), tips for the reader (Voice), and a conclusion (Organization). They also learned a new type of punctuation (Conventions) that is helpful when writing a list of materials - the comma! They will not only share their finished piece, but also their messy drafts, revisions, and edits, which shows all of their hard work!
You'll also be invited to take a finger walk through their Researcher's Workshop journal to see other lab reports and experiments designed by the students.
Since we don't want to fill them up on too much ice cream first thing in the morning, we'd love for parents to organize a healthy "States of Matter" breakfast! If you are interested, please write a comment on this blog post.
